British National Corpus Interface (BYU-BNC)
[Mark Davies/ Brigham Young University]: With the architecture and interface, one can easily find the frequency of words and phrases in any combination of registers (spoken, academic, poetry, medical, etc). In addition, it is possinle to compare between registers -- for example, verbs that are more common in legal or medical texts, or nouns that are more common in fiction than in academic writing.

Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA)
The corpus contains more than 385 million words of text, including 20 million words each year from 1990-2008, and it is equally divided among spoken, fiction, popular magazines, newspapers, and academic texts. (The most recent texts are from late 2008).

PIE incorporates a database derived from the second or World Edition of the BNC (2000), but is not affiliated with the BNC Consortium. It aims to provide a simple yet powerful interface for studying words and phrases up to eight words long appropriate for both experienced researchers and novice users.

Oxford English Dictionary (BYU-OED)
Alternate interface for the OED. Allows a wide range of queries, not possible from standard OED site, e.g. see the frequency of a word, phrase, or substring (e.g. root or suffix) in each century from the 900s-2000s; find the collocates (nearby words) for a given word or phrase, which often provides good insight into meaning.

TIME Magazine Corpus of American English
[Davies/BYU] 100+ million word corpus of American English.
The website allows to quickly and easily search more than 100 million words of text of American English from 1923 to the present, as found in TIME magazine. For example, it is possible to see how words and phrases have increased and decreased in usage and see how words have changed meaning over time.
